Why Choose a Poodle?

We love our Poodles, they have captured our hearts and the hearts of our owner families (kids and retirees, alike!). Not only are they elegant and classy, but they are game to go along for any adventure you want to take them on. Whether you live in a small apartment, or a large house, Poodles can adjust to their living environment. They are great travel companions and are often seen accompanying their owners on trips and adventures.

One of the most notable characteristics of Poodles–and another reason they are often involved in therapy work–is their distinctive coat. Their curly non-shedding coat makes them a great choice for people with allergies, as they do not produce much dander (people are actually allergic to the dander, not the actual fur/hair of dogs). This also means that Poodles require regular grooming to keep their coat healthy and tangle free.

If grooming scares you, don’t worry! There are lots of options for cuts, whether you are looking for easy maintenance. Many of our owners go on to get their owner clippers to do their own cuts for simpler maintenance and lower cost. Some cuts will only need to be done as little as 4 times per year!

Poodles are known for their intelligence and trainability. A lot of people are unaware that they are ranked as one of the most intelligent breeds of dog! They’re not only easy to train because they’re such quick learners, but it makes them great candidates for various activities such as obedience, agility, and therapy or service work.

With quality training and a little bit of planning, Poodles can excel in almost any task given to them. They’re very curious creatures, which make them a joy to be around. They’re like the smart kids in chemistry class: if you don’t engage them in an activity, then they’ll make one for themselves.

In addition to being intelligent, Poodles are also highly social dogs. They have a friendly and outgoing personality, making them great companions for families with children and other pets. In fact, we find our Poodles love to be with other dogs, not just Poodles. Poodles thrive on human interaction and love being part of their owners daily activities. They are known to form strong bonds with their owners and always prefer your company.

"Best Place to Get a Standard Poodle, Hands Down!"

I could not be happier to be a poodle mom for my Dahlia, who was bred at Tamarack Standard Poodles and cared for by the owner, Laura.  As a breeder of poodles, Laura was so nice and approachable, and clearly an expert on this incredible breed.

Laura’s communication throughout the process was filled with quick and precise correspondence and she was so patient with me as I asked all my questions.  She only places her puppies in the best homes and has created lifelong relationships with many of her clients.

As for my beautiful and caring Dahlia… her coat is immaculate, her disposition is calm and curious, and her affection for me and my child as well as for other children, family members and dogs is a perfect combination of joy, love and playful spirit.  She is smart (maybe too smart for her own good!) and respectful and learned very quickly how to be the best girl she can be.

Scarlett the Lab

“Well Scarlett is now 5 years old.  It’s amazing how fast time is going.  We remain best buds and continue to walk the battlefield just about every day.  The trip is shortened a little in the summer due to the heat.  On our route we pass by Willoughby Run where we stop and she gets to splash around for a few minutes to cool off.

‘She remains fearless and mostly ignores gunshots, thunder and fireworks.  She is just the happiest dog, going out of her way to make friends with everyone she encounters.  She has an unbelievable appetite and must have eaten thousands of cicadas, sometimes catching them in midair.  Her favorite machines are the power washer and the snow thrower.  She starts yelping before you can get them started.”
