Meet the Breeder

Hi! I’m Laura!

As a special education teacher, I’m blessed to work with some of the most amazing children. I saw that so many children with special needs were born with the biggest hearts and, despite some of their struggles, they still show up every day with big smiles and an excitement for the day. I love what I do.

In the course of working with these amazing kids, I found some of kids connected with dogs, some even had a service dog that created an emotional bond with the child, providing the child with better quality of life. I already had a love for dogs, when I was little, around four years old, and still struggling to tie my shoes well, I would sneak out to the corner of our lot, far enough away that I felt I was all by myself, and I would hang out with my dogs. My “pack” came in all colors, some pink, some purple, and whenever I realized I was missing a color, I would add another. My parents were happy, as they didn’t influence the food bill.

I remember how my imaginary dogs gave me comfort and adventures as a child and I’ve since seen how dogs can become the much-needed friend for so many children, especially kids like my students. When they talk about their dogs, they aren’t just their dogs, they’re so much more. They are members of the family, they are a piece of their support network, and ultimately they’re their best friend, always there for a hug and a lick when they’ve had a bad day.

I’m embarrassed to admit that it took me half of my career working with kids to realize that I could pair my passion with dogs into something that would bring that best friend to my favorite kids. I’m sure glad I did, bringing puppies into the lives of children has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life…it’s up there with having my own kids.

My kids loved it when we had puppies growing up. One of daughter’s, Francesca, would sit in the whelping box with the puppies the whole eight weeks; sometimes we brought her dinner in there. As they got older, my son, Eddie, considered the puppies as a sort of a wingman when bringing over new girlfriends.

If I can make the puppy that becomes your child’s best friend, that’s the most success I could ever ask for.

Thank you for considering a Tamarack Therapy Puppy, I look forward to learning more about you, your family, and how I can help you find the perfect new best friend. ~Laura
