We love our Poodles, they have captured our hearts and the hearts of our owner families (kids and retirees, alike!). Not only are they elegant and classy, but they are game to go along for any adventure you want to take them on. Whether you live in a small apartment, or a large house, Poodles can adjust to their living environment. They are great travel companions and are often seen accompanying their owners on trips and adventures.
One of the most notable characteristics of Poodles–and another reason they are often involved in therapy work–is their distinctive coat. Their curly non-shedding coat makes them a great choice for people with allergies, as they do not produce much dander (people are actually allergic to the dander, not the actual fur/hair of dogs). This also means that Poodles require regular grooming to keep their coat healthy and tangle free.
If grooming scares you, don’t worry! There are lots of options for cuts, whether you are looking for easy maintenance. Many of our owners go on to get their owner clippers to do their own cuts for simpler maintenance and lower cost. Some cuts will only need to be done as little as 4 times per year!
Poodles are known for their intelligence and trainability. A lot of people are unaware that they are ranked as one of the most intelligent breeds of dog! They’re not only easy to train because they’re such quick learners, but it makes them great candidates for various activities such as obedience, agility, and therapy or service work.
With quality training and a little bit of planning, Poodles can excel in almost any task given to them. They’re very curious creatures, which make them a joy to be around. They’re like the smart kids in chemistry class: if you don’t engage them in an activity, then they’ll make one for themselves.
In addition to being intelligent, Poodles are also highly social dogs. They have a friendly and outgoing personality, making them great companions for families with children and other pets. In fact, we find our Poodles love to be with other dogs, not just Poodles. Poodles thrive on human interaction and love being part of their owners daily activities. They are known to form strong bonds with their owners and always prefer your company.
